Breaking Constraints

This skirt is made using second-hand items. It explores ideas of gender and school uniforms. Part of the skirt has the traditional plaid pattern that is often found in female skirt uniforms, and the other portion has a men's collared skirt, found in male uniforms. Growing up in a school with uniforms, I felt that it put people in a certain box that limited expression, and freedom, and was based on gender. I wanted to piece to showcase how people should be allowed to wear whatever style of clothing they want, instead of having to follow the constraints of gender-based clothing pushed on society and uniforms.
