This collection explores the feeling of not being able to escape one's mind or body and the struggle of the parts that fracture in the process. Surrealism, which blends the consciousness and unconscious mind, evokes familiarity in unfamiliar places. While surrealism is often used as a form of escapism, this collection confronts the inescapable. The looks represent the fantasy escapism and the coming back to reality. I used door hinges on one piece as I explored how the medical field uses hardware to view into the insides of the human mind and body. Hardware binds things together permanently and is used when the body breaks down to rebuild or to see inside the body. It symbolizes the inescapable nature of our physical and mental realities, as a reminder that we have to face our own fate. I also used hands on the other piece to represent the human body and mind.
